I get it. We all want to write super cool and long articles in ChatGPT. No, really, is there anyone who doesn’t want to? Or anyone who hasn’t tried it yet?
I’m an AI copywriter. My name’s Alex Kosch. I try to make copywriters’ lives easier in any way I can. And today is one of those days. I finally managed to create a custom GPT that can write you a 2000-word article, or even longer if you try, without any problems or difficulties at all!
Below, you’ll find a step-by-step guide on how to work with the long-form custom GPT I just created (the link is at the end of the article).
Key Takeaways:
- This guide will teach you how to leverage ChatGPT to easily write long, high-quality articles with minimal effort on your part.
- We’ll be using a custom GPT that can automatically generate an outline and draft full articles section by section.
- You simply provide the topic/title, guide the writing direction, make minor edits if needed, then refine into a polished piece.
- Follow this step-by-step process to create 2000+ word articles that are engaging, readable, and useful for your audience.
- Refining the AI-generated draft into your own voice/style is crucial — treat it as a starting point to build upon.
Step 1. Subscribe to ChatGPT Plus
Yeah, sorry, this isn’t my whim. Custom GPTs aren’t available in the free version of ChatGPT. And there’s no access to GPT-4 either. But ChatGPT Plus gives you access to everything: code interpreter, custom instructions, and so on.
- A ChatGPT Plus subscription costs just twenty bucks. Whether that’s a lot or a little is for you to decide.
Step 2. Get access to my long-form custom GPT
I sell it for $1000 a month. Stop! Don’t run away. I’m just kidding. Ah, fine, run if you want. Anyway, yeah, I did manage to create something decent, so feel free to use it. It’s all free, and I have nothing to do with OpenAI’s subscription.
Step 3. Enter the title of the article you’re planning to write
Make the title reflect the essence of what you want to end up with as much as possible; that is, the title should be informative.
Step 4. Evaluate the outline that my CustomGPT will give you
It’s simple: my custom AI long-form writer will give you a good article outline: assess if everything here suits you.
- You will always have the possibility to adjust the AI long-form writer.
Step 5. Adjust the AI or enter a continuation command
If there’s something you don’t like, say you want to expand the outline, add something, or, on the contrary, remove something, you can easily do it. Just tell the tool everything you want to change and it will do it — as simple as that.
- If you decide to continue, just write “Go on” or “Continue” or “Proceed”.
- Note: For the first time, I recommend just continuing the dialogue to fully explore the tool.
Step 6. Read the introduction and assess how much it satisfies you
Pay attention to the tone, writing style, and everything you like or don’t like. If something doesn’t suit you, just tell the custom long-form AI, and it will do all you need.
- I don’t recommend overdoing corrections. Let me explain: ChatGPT’s memory is limited. And if, for example, you overdo corrections to the introduction, then ChatGPT may simply forget what it wrote earlier by the end or even the middle.
- If you still need to adjust something, be precise in your prompt.
- After getting your approval (“go on,” “continue,” or similar), the custom GPT will move on to the next section.
Step 7. Conduct the orchestra
Section by section, the custom GPT will write a long article, each time asking you if it needs to make any edits (expand, add, change, or improve something).
- If you’re satisfied with everything, just enter “proceed,” “continue,” etc.
- As before, I don’t recommend correcting too much or too often, as ChatGPT’s memory is limited.
Step 8. Evaluate the article’s readability
When the article is completely finished, go to Grammarly or the Hemingway app and evaluate the readability and other metrics. In my example, we managed to achieve a readability score of 54, meaning a 15-year-old student would have no trouble reading this article, which is pretty good.
- I recommend checking the text in both Grammarly and the Hemingway app. In the second case, the readability score was 10, which is also good but could be better. The advantage of the Hemingway app is that this service allows you to see for free which sentences can and should be fixed to make them more readable,
Step 9. Refine the article
Add personal experience, rewrite certain paragraphs, add visual interactivity (tables, lists, etc.) Maximize the article in every possible way. Add images, infographics — make the article as useful as possible.
- You shouldn’t expect ChatGPT to do all the work for you: treat what you get as a draft. 60-70% of the work has already been done for you; just add a bit of yourself to this content.
Step 10. Check the article for originality and plagiarism
For this purpose, I recommend using Originality.ai. In my opinion, this is the best tool for checking any content for AI detection. In the image above, I checked the entire article at once, but I recommend checking articles in small parts, as this will save on credits. For example, you can check only the introduction and first part of the article to assess how well my custom GPT has done the task.
- Before checking any AI content for originality, do what I said above: improve it and refine it, and only then try checking for originality.
- AI detection is a controversial topic. Some believe that the main thing is for the content to be useful and not worry about it at all, while others, on the contrary, make every effort to make their content undetectable. What does Google think about it? Well, Google doesn’t seem to mind AI content at all. My personal opinion: content should be useful, readable, with a bit of your soul in it; so, it always needs refinement.
- This custom GPT is not designed to create original or undetectable AI content, it is aimed at writing good long-form content with minimal participation from you.
Step 11. Humanize your AI content
For this, there are different tools like Undetectable.ai. But they are paid. I suggest using another of my custom GPTs — an AI humanizer. It is also free if you have a ChatGPT Plus subscription.
- Carefully read my guide on how to use this humanizer. It can serve you well if you are a regular ChatGPT user and generate a lot of content there.
Step 12. Publish the finished article
When you have made all the refinements, you can publish the article on your blog or website. Be sure to use all the tips I gave above and don’t neglect them. I tried to write the simplest and most informative guide on writing long-form content using ChatGPT.
Here’s my custom GPT that can craft long-form posts in minutes: try it out!
